In Enemy Territory
by Allerun on Oct.31, 2009, under Uncategorized
I’m here in Lubbock today with family to watch the Tech/Kansas game (writing this on the iPhone). The kicker is that my In-laws (who got the tickets) are of the Kansas persuasion. It’s a new experience to attend a game and not be part of the home team.
I’m not really cheering for either side so I’m pretty much neutral but it’s still an interesting experience. It’s almost intimidating being in a small contingent if blue in a sea of red. I’m actually surprised at the number of locals that are wearing blue.
Looking forward to a good game.
An 80s Epidemic
by Allerun on Oct.26, 2009, under Gripes
It’s official, we’ve run out of ideas.
It’s either that or the current generation of movie makers has absolutely no imagination or creative drive whatsoever. These are the only reasons that I can figure for the recent (and upcoming) glut of 80s era remakes coming to theaters everywhere.
Don’t believe me? Let’s count the recent and upcoming list of 80s remakes to the big screen:
- Transformers
- Transformers 2
- GI Joe
- Halloween (technically the 70s for the first movie, but most of the series was made in the 80s)
- Friday the 13th
- The Karate Kid (the new movie is titled The Kung Fu Kid)
- The A-Team
- Red Dawn
- Short Circuit
- Poltergeist
- Fame
- Footloose
- Children of the Corn (released to television, not theaters, but same difference)
- V (see above)
- Red Sonja
- Conan
- He-Man (titled Greyskull)
- Hellraiser
- Back to School
- Romancing the Stone
And I’m sure there are several that I missed. This doesn’t even count recent sequels to 80s film series like the Terminator films, the Indiana Jones films and the Star Trek films. I, however, don’t mind sequels to movies series near as much. Depending on the series, I actually encourage sequels. Nor does this list even begin to touch on the 80s music covers that I’ve been hearing lately. I don’t have a problem with bands doing covers of past songs, some songs are timeless and different compositions just adds to the enjoyment. But there have been a LOT of 80s covers recently.
I don’t get it. The 80s were okay; bad fashion, the Cold War, arcades and the Jamaican Bobsled Team were all fond memories, but I can’t think of any movies from that decade that need to be remade. In fact, I don’t think there is anything from that decade that needs to be brought into the present. And yet here we are filled to the brim with 80s remakes.
Whether it’s lack of creativity or the fact that those in power making these movies grew up in the 80s and want to envision their childhood with a big budget and computer generated graphics (as opposed to a back yard and sticks), I really wish the 80s had stayed in its own decade.
A Case for the Recession
by Allerun on Oct.24, 2009, under Uncategorized
I’ve actually been sitting on this for about three weeks to a month now. The coolest case to bear-hug my iPhone is the Recession Case from Case-Mate. This case does it all. Houses your iPhone? Check. Allows access to most of the ports on your iPhone? Check. Cost under a dollar? Double check!
That’s right. For less than a dollar, you too can have your very own recession inspired iPhone accessory. Check out the pics below:
- Front of the Recession case. Notice its sleek lines and smooth contours. If you notice that, you aren’t looking at the picture.
- The back of the case. There’s a hole here because I wanted to see if the case was bullet proof. It’s not.
- Top of the case with opening goodness for your headphones and the power button. Is it just me or do the openings follow you when you move?
- Bottoms up on the Recession Case. Notice there is no opening for the charge/usb cable. Nobody ever charges their iPhone anyway, right?
- Left side of the case with an opening for the volume toggle and mute switch. You can’t mute the Recession Case, though.
- Here is the right side of the case. This is the most interesting side of the case.
- Here is the case in action. Do not taunt Recession case. Bonus Buddah Kitty picture included.
Case-Mate will even personalize the back of the case free of charge. I think they are using the “Hobo” font, but I’m not entirely sure about that. It could also be “Ten-Year-Old Scrawl” or “Written With Feet” fonts. They are all so similar. You can see in the picture of the back of the case above I added a message to anyone who might stumble across my phone telling them exactly what they are holding in their hand to ward off any confusion.
I love this case. It’s probably one of the best dollars I’ve ever spent. It’s both clever and unique, and it pokes fun at iPhone users all at the same time. If you can’t laugh at yourself, then who can you laugh at? Well, just about everyone else, but what’s the fun in that? Honestly, let me know, I haven’t tried it but I’m looking for a new hobby.
I Move for Additional Hours in the Day
by Allerun on Oct.19, 2009, under Uncategorized
So much to do this week and so little time. I’m sure I’m not alone, so I propose that we start a movement to extend the hours in the day. Two, maybe three more hours a day would work.
My Hypocrisy Knows No Bounds

After a successful test of some WordPress to Facecr… Facebook plugins, I have officially signed up for what is probably my doom. Or at least the same time sink everyone else seems to be frequenting.
